4 Marketing Basics Every Entrepreneur Should Know

A quick and dirty run-down of the most simple principles of marketing.

If you run a business already, this should be obvious to you but if you're still in the ideation phase of entrepreneurship, this should be helpful! If you have any questions, drop 'em in the comments with full confidence that I'll do my best to help you answer them. Merry Marketing!

1. Know who you’re talking to

  • Understand your target market. Not just who your ideal buyer is, but who would actually benefit from your offering. Think as big as possible AND as micro as possible before you decide. Do not make arbitrary decisions. Do your research.

2. Pick a platform.

  • Your digital business card. Doesn’t matter if it’s a website, a slack group, an instagram, a facebook page. Have a place to send people.

3. Get involved.

  • Networking is just as much a part of marketing as anything else. Put yourself in situations, around people, and in online groups that will draw you closer to what you desire. This is where you learn

4. Make content somewhere, anywhere

  • I don’t care if you write it, take photos of it, make a list about it, whatever. Just make it. I’m not asking you to share it. Just make it.

  • Pro tip: Listen to a podcast or a clubhouse and just take notes on things that resonate with you. Eventually, those notes will form their own pieces of content that are specific to you and your gift.
